East Basin Chain Maintenance Works - November 2025 Start
We will be commencing essential maintenance works in the East Basin of the harbour in early November. This will involve the removal of the existing chains to allow for inspection, servicing, and necessary repairs.
To facilitate these works, all vessels currently moored in the East Basin must be removed no later than 31st October. We kindly ask all berth holders to make the necessary arrangements to ensure compliance with this deadline.
Our target is to have all moorings reinstated and operational by the end of December, subject to weather conditions and any unforeseen delays.
Timber Piling Works – Next Phase
The next phase of the timber piling programme is also scheduled to begin in early November. These works will continue on from the previous piling operations carried out in the East Basin and are part of our ongoing infrastructure improvement plan.
Black Hut Redevelopment - Planning and Prohect Overview
The Black Hut is scheduled for complete renovation due to extensive timber decay, which has rendered the structure unsuitable for continued use. Dorset Council has received a Planning Decision Notice confirming that, under permitted development rights, we are authorised to remove and rebuild the Black Hut in accordance with the submitted plans. These plans include both the existing structure and the proposed redevelopment, which aims to retain the character and appearance of the original building wherever possible.
The new design incorporates a modest extension to accommodate a small kiosk, which will offer refreshments including coffee, tea, and ice creams. The kiosk will be operated by Dorset Council staff, with all proceeds reinvested directly into harbour operations.
Additionally, the landward side of the building will feature a changing facility for swimmers, enhancing the amenities available to the public.
Subject to final approvals and procurement, the project timeline aims for the Black Hut to be rebuilt and the kiosk operational by March/April 2026.
